For women who love to shop, the Internet has forged a lasting connection. The list of clothing sites is long and growing. Consumers have not forsaken the bricks and mortar retail establishments, but the ladies still love a trip to the mall. And though most men find shopping a fate worse than a root canal, they are a little more enthusiastic about shopping online. Shopping fashion and women is a bond not soon broken.

A woman who loves to shop is on friendly terms with most retail outlets. She loves looking for just about anything: shoes, jewelry, cars, homes, gadgets and even tools. Getting new stuff is, in modern culture, less about need and more about appreciation.

In this way, women keep the consumer society going. If men had their way, they would wear the same shoes forever. They are less likely to want an entire wardrobe of shirts or even jeans. They do like shopping for cars, electronics and hardware but do not expect them to get excited about a sale on underwear. This is the rule though there are exceptions.

Let us be truthful: fashion is not about needs. Only as an auxiliary is it about clothing the body. Mostly it is about making a statements concerning style, taste and status. Our style tells the world whether we are trying to conform or whether we are rebelling. The right outfit feels well… Right.

Fashion is also marketed relentlessly and made obsolete by forces unknown to the average person but markedly decisive within the fashion industry. Designers know exactly when to change the silhouette of a dress or a jacket that will leave the fashionable dissatisfied with what is in the closet no matter how expensive or chic it only recently was.

Designers are quick to introduce new colors, shapes or fabrics and they have had the upper hand. The Internet is shaking up things in their world too. With so many sites offering discounts and bargains, they can no longer be sure they will be able to command the prices they once did. Things are moving quickly in the online world of reviews, chats and discussions about brands. Maintaining brand status is adding another dimension to their business that needs constant attending.

Consumers are now savvy about pricing. They are not as willing to shell out the big bucks if they think they can get a deal. Somewhere someone will offer it at a price he or she is willing to pay. This gives the edge to buyers but it is not all bad for designers. They are now reaching customers worldwide with the click of the mouse. Shopping fashion and women are each playing on a much larger field.
