For centuries, there has been a major problem with the gender divide. A woman - the representative of the fairer sex, to use the horribly sexist cliche - has rarely been given the same opportunities that men were in the past. They were excluded from many activities and left to fend for themselves with little rights and fewer opportunities. That has changed, however, and 21st century women are proving people can have it all.
They are now some of the most high profile people in this world, working at highly skilled, well paying jobs at the heads of companies and governments. One needs to only look around to see a collection of trailblazers that any woman would be proud to follow in the foot steps of these days. A woman would not have been considered suitable for half of the jobs that the fairer sex now takes up in modern life.
Take, for example, the world of politics. It is important that people pick the right leader to inspire and direct their country’s fortunes. Which is why it is very obvious that the power lies with the so called fairer sex these days. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, is one of the most feared and respected women in Europe. She leads just about the only country which has a positive economy today, and has knocked heads together to thrash out a solution to the Eurozone crisis.
In the United States of America, Hillary Rodham Clinton is the Secretary of State. She jets around the globe fighting geopolitical fires. Worldwide, she is perhaps better known than even the President himself because she is so regularly a visitor to foreign shores.
They are not the only areas of the globe to revel in having a female in the highest echelons of government. Australia is run by a female Prime Minister named Julia Gillard who has the widespread respect of her populace. South American democracies have been electing female Presidents for years.
They are at the top of big businesses as well. No longer is there a glass ceiling for those who may require maternity leave in the longer run. Gender equality legislation has redressed the balance worldwide. Some forward thinking countries including those in Scandinavia ensure half their boards are female.
21st century women have to be much admired. They have managed to carve out a great niche for themselves to be respected equally as much as men, fighting against injustice. They will continue to lead and thrive in the modern world.
